Harvest Fest

It's hard to find a good Harvest Festival when you don't celebrate Halloween... but we were fortunate to find one! There was nothing scary, ghoulish, or in any way Halloween related. Hooray! It was more of an old-fashioned harvest celebration, with activities like making corn husk dolls, butter churning, candle dipping, Indian corn jewelry, stamping, leaf rubbing, soap carving, basket weaving, a nickel dig, old fashioned game tables, quilting, spinning, you name it!!! They also had a small petting animal section and (Elianna's favorite) free pony rides. All Elianna cared about was riding a pony and getting a hot dog. I don't buy hot dogs at home (ew!) so to my daughter they are a treat. I think they're gross, but hey! She has her own opinions. Since we had to get ready for Selah's party, we weren't able to stay very long. Hopefully they will have it again next year!

Here are the pictures... and since everyone keeps making fun of me because I put the captions over my pictures, I will put them under the pictures from now on.

Eating her long-awaited hot dog.

Selah was SOOO excited when I made her a corn husk doll. Elianna hated hers and gave it to Selah.

The best part for Elianna - PONY RIDE!!

Feeding and petting the critters

This was really hard!! So I ended up doing all the work and Elianna just played with the scissors.

Elianna did enjoy making leaf rubbings, though.

I Can Only Imagine

I heard this song at a ladies retreat a couple years ago, and it has been going through my mind. Ever since I was little, there have been times when I have tried to imagine what it will be like to be in Heaven before the Lord. It is just amazing to me to know that someone I love so dearly is experiencing it all right now. Knowing the joy and wonder she is feeling now makes it easier to let her go.

I Can Only Imagine

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me

I can only imagine

Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel,
Will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe of you be still,
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I shout hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I am standing
In the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever and ever
Worship you

I can only imagine

Funeral Information

Grandma's viewing will be at Harris Funeral Home from 2:00 - 9:00 on Monday, and the funeral is at 11:00 at Parkview Baptist on Tuesday.

Thanks so much for all the calls, cards and e-mails!!! I know it's hard to know what to say (I always hated calling people who were going through this!!!) but it really doesn't matter what you say. The comfort is in knowing people care and how much people loved her.

I love you, Grandma!

Trying to Say Good-bye

This may seem like an odd time to be blogging, but I need to get my thoughts off my chest before my heart explodes. Last night, my grandma was unexpectedly taken from us. She went in for a procedure on the veins in her leg, and after the surgery something went wrong. Terribly wrong. We are still waiting for answers, but no matter what they tell us my peace is in knowing that this was her appointed time. No one took her from us, she went to be with the Lord she loved and served for so many years. It was not an accident, not a mistake. Everything is exactly as it is meant to be. She is in Heaven now, in awe before the Lord who will have to tell her good-bye for us since we never had the chance. The verse the Lord keeps putting on my heart is "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord has promised to them that love Him." My grandmother was not a half-hearted Christian. She adored her Lord and shared her faith at every opportunity. She was one of the most zealous soul-winners I've ever known, and I imagine her now meeting with the many people who are in Heaven with her because of her influence and testimony. I am so glad she can experience such joy and wonder while we are all in such shock and pain.

I ask you now to examine your own heart. Have you made your peace with God? We are not promised one more minute upon this earth, and as we are reminded by my grandmother's homecoming you are rarely expecting the end of your life when it comes. I beg you, do NOT put off making your peace with God. If you can feel His pull on your heart, confess your sins to Him and give your life to Him. The Bible tells us to "seek the Lord while He may be found." Do not fool yourself that you have enough time to worry about such matters later. We have been cruelly reminded that you never know when your last day may be. My grandmother had an intensely strong burden for warning souls to turn to Christ, and I know her greatest joy was when someone was snatched from the Devil's grasp. It does not matter if you are young and think you have your whole life ahead of you, or in your sunset years and think it's too late to call out to God now. If you are still living, that means God is still giving you the chance to find Him and accept Him into your heart. You need the Lord, and you need to find Him now. God is calling you, and He wants you to accept that He died on the cross to pay for all your sins. You do not have to die and pay the penalty of your sin in the life to come, you can cry out to God and He will answer you. Make this decision now, while God is pulling on your heart now. Bow your head and heart before Him and allow Him into your life. It is never too late or too early. The Bible says, "Now is the accepted time... now is the day of salvation." My grandmother's salvation transformed her life in a miraculous way, and she loved to share it with others. If her passing urged one person to reevaluate their life and realize their need for the Lord's forgiving work, she would be overjoyed.

In the Bible when King David's baby dies, he said, "Shall I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me." This verse inspired me to write this song several years ago. It's not as meaningful without the music, but I'll share the words with you.

Sometimes it's hard to say good-bye to someone that we love
When they go on before us to their blessed home above
Our hearts ache with emptiness they leave when they are gone
When God takes one we love so much, leaving us here alone
We have said good-bye to fathers, loving mothers, dearest friends
Oh how precious is the promise that we can see them again

I can't bring you back to me
But someday I will come to you
And we will be together again some sweet day
When my life is through
Oh I miss you now that you've gone away
But I know it won't be long
Knowing that I will see you again
Gives me strength to carry on
I can't bring you back, but I promise one day
I'll come to you

We couldn't have known you'd be the first to see our final home
We didn't know your feet would be the first to walk those streets of gold
But you're happier now than you could have even been here I know
So it's only because I love you so much that I'm able to let you go.

I can't bring you back, but I promise one day, I'll come to you.

I'm trying to say good-bye to you, Grandma. I wish I could have seen you one last time. I wish I could hug you one last time. I'm so thankful the last words we spoke to each other were "I love you! Good-bye!" as you were leaving Sarah's birthday party. Of course, I thought it was only for a few days before you came to stay for a few days with my mom. I had so many plans for us to do together while you were here, and I wish I could have had those nine days with you we were all looking forward to so much. Tina told us that you were so excited about it, and kept talking about how much you loved spending time with your family. You loved us all so much, we could see that. I only hoped we let you know how much we loved you and and how much you meant to our lives. As you stand before your Lord now, I know He will say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant! Enter now into the joy of thy Lord."

Happy FIRST Birthday!!!

*teary sigh* My baby is ONE today!!! I can't believe the time has flown by so quickly. (My pregnancy certainly didn't seem to go by that fast!!!)

Happy Birthday, Selah Gabrielle!!!!

(As you can see, she takes life very seriously)!

We love you more than words can say, my little sweetheart. As much as I love watching you grow up, every new thing you do both thrills and breaks my heart! Thrilling to watch you grow and learn, but so hard to let you go. Deep down, I know you will always be my baby girl.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Hard to believe a year ago today I was in labor, and Chad was hoping for a little 30th birthday present! She decided not to come till the next morning, so now you can each have your own birthday! Happy Birthday, to the best hubby and Daddy in the world (even if I am a little biased...)!!

Analyzing the Criminal Mind

I got a laugh from these pictures of Selah at the orchard, so I had to make a new post for them!

Mmmmm, those apples sure look yummy.

You didn't pay for me to pick any apples?!?
Mom, why did you have to be such a cheapskate?

I don't think anyone is looking...

If I could just touch it, that's all I want to do, just touch it.

Oh, never mind, I'm grabbing one!

Yum, so this is what they mean by the forbidden fruit?

Apple Orchard Pics!

Okay, the girls are both napping, so I will try to get caught up... Here are the pictures from the Cider Mill!

Elianna was kind of bored through Grandma Judy's teaching session, but Selah was quite intent on it all. She kept leaning w-a-a-a-y forward in the stroller to see what was going on.

Sampling different apples - yummy!
(My kids devoured them like I hadn't fed them in days.)

Elianna didn't like the cider (she said it was "sour"), and because I'm an over-paranoid mommy, Selah got milk with her doughnut instead of the unpasteurized cider. Of course, she decided nothing goes with doughnuts better than a nice, warm sock. It was so soggy by the time she was done chewing on it, she went with only one sock and shoe on the rest of the trip.

Heading out to pick apples.

The Stroller Club! Selah and Andrew hung out while we picked apples. (You have to love the one sock/shoe look...)

CRaZy DrIvERr!!!

We have been saving up all summer for a 4-wheeler for Elianna, and what do you know! Just when I was about to give up, my mom found one at a yard sale for 20 bucks!!! You should have seen the look on Elianna's face when she saw it. She was absolutely ecstatic, and has talked of little else. She jumped right on it and took off, so we are very thankful she figured out how to steer in a matter of minutes. (This was after a few collisions, and there have been a couple since that we are not sure if they were intentional or not...) She rode it till the battery literally stopped dead, and has been begging me ever since to let her ride it again. (It takes 10 hours to charge, so it's going to be a L-O-N-G ten hours.)

And she's off!

Showing off her "trick riding" skills (She kept standing up or doing "no hands")

Another Sideways Video

Okay, okay, I admit it. My brain is just NOT what it used to be. (Or was it ever??!) It does not matter HOW MANY TIMES I take a video sideways, I just can't get it through my skull to STOP DOING IT. And yes, I know that typing in CAPS is YELLING, but that that's what I feel like doing. So when I TYPE LIKE THIS, plug your ears, because I'm yelling.

All ranting aside, this was the first video I was able to get of Selah's first steps. Just tilt your head like you're eating a taco - it's only about 5 seconds long anyway. Although she has been hobbling around for over a month, she is still not walking all the time; she reserves it only for short trips and reverts to crawling when she has some serious travelling to do.
